Richland Balsam

Depart from downtown Sylva, NC and ride an out-and-back to the Richland Balsam overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is the highest point on the Parkway. You can access the Parkway via a maintenance road. Then is is uphill with only a few brief saddles to the overlook at 6,053’. There are no facilities at the overlook, but there is water from a natural spring available just near the overlook on the Balsam (northern) side. Elevation gain is approximately 5,200’.
